The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) / Texas recognized Leighton as a Texas legislator who earned 100 percent in voting on legislation that would have had an impact on small business.

“These distinguished lawmakers understand and value the true backbone of Texas’ economy, small business owners, and the impact public policy changes will have on these owners’ abilities to own, operate, and grow their businesses,” said NFIB Executive Director Will Newton. “Lawmakers who vote with small business during session are fulfilling their campaign promises to keep the Texas economy robust, as small businesses account for 96 percent of all businesses in the state.”

Leighton received high marks and the conservative stamp of approval from the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) for his votes in the 84th Legislative Session.

“Any legislator can claim to be conservative, so our scorecard gives voters an objective tool to cut through the noise and compare results to rhetoric,” said Jeff Morris, YCT State Chairman. “Over the last 6 months, we have carefully vetted the voting records of each legislator to determine who truly went down to Austin and did their job.”

Taking into account all members of each chamber, the average score in the House was a 46. Leighton scored a 63.

HOSPAC, the bipartisan political action committee of the Texas Hospital Association (THA), has endorsed Leighton for re-election.
